'Evidence to prove that Soumya was pushed off the train'

Dr Shirly, who conducted the post-mortem of Soumya

Kozhikode: The doctor who conducted the post-mortem of Soumya said that there is evidence to prove she was pushed off the train.

"The grievous wounds on her body prove that those were inflicted on her by someone. If she had jumped off the train on her own, the nature of the injuries would have been different," Dr Sherly told Manorama News.

The Supreme Court on Thursday slammed the prosecution for not presenting enough evidence against Govindachamy, the death-row convict in the Soumya murder case. The 24-year-old woman was raped and pushed out of a running train in 2011.

However, the court said that the prosecution should convince the bench that the accused had indeed committed the murder.

Reacting to the SC statement, the doctor said, "There were deep wounds on her head that were caused after someone banged her face on the train door. Injuries on her hands also prove that she was attacked. If she had jumped off the train, the nature of the injuries would have been different."
