Pathanamthitta: The Rasthriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) once again failed to bury deep divisions over the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala, even as Tuesday's visit by the party's national president Amit Shah is eagerly watched. A two-day annual conference of the RSS held at Adoor had to avoid a discussion on the subject after a section adopted the stand that there should not be a compromise with the BJP or Amit Shah.
The rift had widened after BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan was appointed governor of Mizoram without consulting the RSS, the party's ideological mentor. A demand was raised at the conference that BJP general secretaries M. Ganesan and K. Subhash should be pulled out as a mark of protest.
The other section took the stand that the RSS should not try to aggravate the issue as it has a commitment to sort out problems within the Sangh Parivar outfits. Leaders like S. Sethumadhavan, A. Gopalakrishnan, A. Nandakumar, R. Sanjayan and A R Mohanan demanded that the issue be settled.
However, P. Gopalankutty, Eswaran Namboodiri and P R Sasidharan insisted that the BJP should be taught a lesson. Kerala pranta pracharak Harikrishnakumar and sahakaryavahak M. Radhakrishnan stayed neutral, but their positions were also in favour of Kummanam.
There are indictaions that RSS chief Mohan Bhagawat would intervene. It is not clear if Amit Shah would meet RSS leaders on Tuesday. The RSS sources say they have not been notified about his arrival.
The two-day meet discussed annual budgets of all Sangh outfits, except that of the BJP.
