Kottakkal (Malappuram): Bank account holders at an SBI branch at Kottakkal were shocked to see their accounts flooded with money on Sunday. At least 20 people have revealed that their accounts have been suddenly fattened. One of them received as much as Rs 1 crore in his account.
Oddly enough the SBI claimed that the transfer was part of a strategy to freeze the accounts that did not comply with the know-your-customer requirements! The bank filled the accounts with money so that they could freeze it!
The accounts have been frozen in the backdrop of the unusual transfers. The bank said that the accounts were not linked to Aadhaar.
Most of the account holders realised the strange transfers when they used an ATM to draw their salaries on the 1st. Several people said that they were alerted about the huge deposit through texts from banks. They had to prove their fingerprint identity to draw money from their accounts.
