Pathanamthitta: The LDF rule has provided a fertile ground for growth of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Kerala, according to the assessment of the organisation. RSS also believes that social media too has helped in its expansion in the state.

It added 300 more shakhas (branches) last year, to take the total number of training centres in the state to 5,300. These details were shared during the annual state leadership meeting (Pranthiya Karyakari Baithak) held at Adoor.

The Samanvay Baithak bringing together the district leaders of BJP and Sangh Parivar organisations will be held in September. The three-day event will be attended by RSS sar karyavah (general secretary Bhaiyaji Joshi.

Meanwhile, changes have been made to the way the RSS shakhas are organised. Earlier, they used to be held in the morning, evening and night; hereafter they could be held according to the convenience of the members in respective areas.

Since there is a strong belief that the LDF government is trying to target RSS workers, even old-time workers are attending shakha activities daily. The awareness campaigns on social media have also helped the organisation to grow.

While noting that the preparations made for the Palakkad function of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had helped in streamlining organisational structure even till the grassroots level, the controversy surrounding the flag-hoisting ceremony gave more confidence to supporters.
