Alappuzha: The case of missing woman Bindu has taken a new turn which has made the police believe that she is still alive. Sebastian, who was arrested on charges of preparing Bindu’s fake power of attorney, told the police that he had last seen her in September last year. Moreover, three of his neighbours said that they had seen Bindu near Sebastian’s house in February this year.

The complaint filed regarding the disappearance of Bindu had said that she was missing since 2013. But statements of witnesses that she was sighted in February proved to be a turning point in the case. Police also believe that Sebastian may not have a direct involvement in Bindu’s disappearance.

Sebastian, who was evading arrest for over four weeks, was taken into custody from Ernakulam on Saturday morning. M Boney, a relative of Sebastian’s wife, and one Mini were also arrested in the case. Boney had arranged Sebastian’s hiding place at a ginger plantation in Shimoga in Karnataka, according to the police.

More arrests, including that of Sebastian business partner and relative Shaji, would take place soon, said the investigators.

Sebastian told the police he had purchased 11 cents of land at Palarivattom in Ernakulam jointly with Bindu and registered it in her name. A police team led by district police chief S Surendran and DySPs A Nazim and A G Lal interrogated him from Saturday evening to early on Sunday. The persons mentioned by Sebastian during the questioning were brought before him by the police on Saturday night itself. The interrogation took place in the presence of the witnesses.

Police heading to Chennai

Meanwhile, the police are examining where Bindu was headed from Pallippuram, where she had reportedly reached in February. A police team is leaving for Chennai to obtain details of reservation in trains passing through Cherthala, from the Southern Railway headquarters. This is assuming that she would have reached Cherthala railway station to travel to any place.

The police have also not ruled out the possibility of Bindu travelling abroad. However, no details have been obtained from Chennai passport office in this regard so far.
