Kolenchery: Two Plus-2 students of the Keezhillam St Thomas Higher Secondary School drowned in Valiyathodu river near Thattupalam in Irapuram.
Gopikrishnan, 17, of Thrikkalathooor and Allen, 17, from Kandakadavu in Kochi had reached the place along with another friend for angling.
One of them was swept away around 12.30 pm on Thursday. The other one also met with the same fate while trying to save his friend.
Their friend, who was on the shore, cried out for help and local people rushed to the spot. The Fire and Rescue Force also arrived from Pattimattom. The bodies were recovered by 1.30 pm and were taken to Kolenchery Medical Mission Hospital.
Gopikrishnan's father Jiji is a trader in Mannur. His mother Biji works at the Vivekanda Public School in Kadathi. He has a brother, Jayakrishnan.
Allen is the son of Sunil Thomas and Tiji of Koyilparambil in Kandakadavu and was staying in a rented accomodation in Irapuram Ambikamadhom.
He has a brother, Jibin.
Allen will be buried at the Jehova Witnesses Cemetery in Nedungapra on Friday at 11am. Gopikrishnan's cremation is at 12 pm.
