Police cut short fancy rides on altered bikes

Thiruvananthapuram: In a major crackdown, the city police have seized 30 vehicles, including a car, plying on the roads after making illegal alterations. Most of the vehicles are bikes and were intercepted by a team led by control room assistant commissioner of police V Suresh Kumar. The checks were carried out based on the instructions of city police commissioner P Prakash.

The altered vehicles landed in the police net at Sasthamangalam, Vellayambalam, Sanghumugham- Airport road and Kovalam bypass. They were mainly Bullet, Pulsar, FZ and Duke motorcycles which had their silencers modified and flaunted fancy horns producing big sounds.

There were numerous complaints over modified bikes meeting with accidents. Riders of such bikes were reported to be involved in incidents of harassing women also.

Motor vehicles department will be asked to cancel the registration of the altered vehicles, said the police.
