Akathethara: Two fire force personnel, engaged in relief operations in Kallekulangara in Palakkad, were almost washed away in strong current before their fellow men came to their rescue.

Officers Ajith and Rakesh were grievously injured after being hit by logs of wood. They are recuperating at a Palakkad hospital.

As heavy rain lashed the Kallekulangara area, an uprooted tree fell into the Ambatt canal, obstructing the flow of water and inundating nearby houses. The fire force team rushed to the site with equipment, including an earth-mover.

During the operation, a sheet that was being used to deflect the flow of the water suddenly got dislodged in the currents. Ajith and Rakesh found themselves being washed away in the strong current. The timely intervention of the fellow officers rescued the duo. The fire force personnel had thrown a thick rope for them to cling on while they were dragged back to the bank.
