Kerala schools, varsities close for Onam holidays; exams postponed

The Kerala education department has announced that schools across the state will close for Onam holidays Friday, August 17. The schools will now reopen on August 29. On Thursday, it was announced that the Onam examinations scheduled for August 31 have been postponed.

The district administrations of Thiruvanathapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur have declared a Friday holiday for all educational institutions in view of the incessant rain. Schools, Anganwadis and professional colleges will remain shut in these districts.

In Kasaragod, educational institutions, including professional colleges, at Vellarikundu taluk and those schools in the district that are doubling up as relief camps will have a holiday on Friday.  

Varsities postpone exams

Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has postponed exams scheduled for Friday and Saturday (August 17-18). The Calicut University has postponed all examinations scheduled till August 31.

The university also declared that it would close for Onam holidays earlier than scheduled and will reopen only on August 28. Earlier, the holidays were scheduled to begin on August 20.

The Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur, has postponed all theory exams scheduled for Friday (August 17); no change to the timetable set for practical examinations. Revised dates of theory exams will be announced later.

Kerala Agriculture University & Farming System Research Station at Sadanandapuram has postponed the examinations to the posts of research fellow and technical assistant at the university. These examinations were supposed to be held on August 20 and 21.

The Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur, has also postponed the admission procedure set for tomorrow.

The College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, Thrissur will not conduct any examinations on Friday.

The Mahatma Gandhi University has postponed all examinations scheduled for Friday. The student union election in colleges affiliated to the MG University has also been postponed. New dates will be declared later.

The Kerala Public Service Commission has postponed all departmental examinations, interviews and certificate scrutiny scheduled for Friday and Saturday (August 17,18).

The online and OMR examinations scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been postponed, said Controller of Examinations Narayan Sharma.
