Floods fail to drown this doc’s spirit of charity

Aluva: The floods destroyed his property, but that did not stop doctor C M Haiderali from continuing his charity work.

The doctor, whose house and hospital near Aluva were destroyed in the August deluge, is now busy giving free treatment to people affected by the floods.

Even though his home near Periyar river was completely submerged in the week-long floods, Haiderali preferred to first clean up the Anwar Memorial Pain and Palliative Care Clinic once the water receded and started taking care of patients. The deluge had damaged everything inside the clinic: computers, X-Ray machine, laboratory, medicines, ambulance, generator, beds, cots and office files.

The doctor also runs the Aminumma Hydrose Dr Nafeesa Beevi Charitable Trust, which has its building at Kadungallur. There, too, he first cleaned up the hospital and brought back the cancer patients immediately after the deluge. The patients were shifted to the Cooperative Medical College Hospital in Kalamassery, 15 km away.

The floods came just ahead of the clinic’s 16th anniversary. Dr Hyderali cancelled the celebrations and used those funds to buy medicines for his patients.
