Two suffer sunstroke in Wayanad

Panamaram (Wayanad): The weather has changed drastically across Kerala even before the damage caused by the recent floods is yet to be contained, Two people reportedly suffered sunstroke in the district on Monday.

Both Biju (39) of Kandoth, Punchakkunnu in Nadavayal, and Ismail (34) of Kammanad, Mylady in Venniyode developed symptoms associated with sunstroke around 1.45 pm.

While Ismail was repairing a volleyball ground at Kottathara panchayat that was destroyed in the floods, Biju was engaged in house construction when the incident took place.They had felt a burning sensation behind their neck and on the back. When examined, bubbles were seen on the skin and the men were soon admitted to hospital.

Severe heat is now being witnessed in the district after the August floods and the reports of sunstroke have spread panic among the local residents.

Sunstroke or heatstroke is caused by excessive exposure to the sun. Drastic rise in body temperature, often accompanied by dehydration, results in distinctive symptoms.
