Kozhikode: A 20-year-old man has been arrested by the Kozhikode police after he lured in a minor girl by projecting himself as a celebrity DJ.

Fayaz Mubeen is alleged to have duped several other women, the police said.

The police took the couple into custody from Mangaluru. They had been evading the cops by staying in various places including Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Kanhangad and Sullia, the police said.

The police suspect that Mubeen, an Ernakulam native, has duped many more people. His social media profile claims he is a DJ working with a big hotel in Kochi. He is connected with more than 2,000 people on Facebook, including underage girls, the police said.

Mubeen had been studying at a private vocational training centre in Kozhikode for the last 10 months. He met the 17-year-old girl during his stay in the city and got close to her and finally both eloped.

The girl's family lodged a complaint with the police that she had been missing for a week. The police at Chevayur finally tracked the girl and Mubeen to Mangaluru.

When he was arrested, Mubeen was in the possession of a stolen motorcycle with a fake registration number. He is accused of stealing the costly bike from a showroom in Ernakulam three months ago. His friend also had reportedly played a role in the theft.
