Arattupuzha: The loss of her father and mother within 10 days has left teenager Anagha all alone. It was just five days ago that her mother Latha died of cancer. Her father, Anandan, had succumbed to a heart ailment 10 days before that.

Anagha is now at her house at Ramanchery, Arattupuzha, all alone. A flex board that hails her for her brilliant win in Class X hangs nearby. She had secured 9 A plus in her final class-10 examination and the flex was erected by local people to congratulate her.

Anagha wrote her exam even as the illness of her parents was tormenting her.

Anandan had a heart valve replacement 13 years ago. Doctors had warned him to keep off hard work, but the poor fisherman had little choice. Adding to the misery, Latha was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago and had shown improvement. But cancer spread to her head four months ago. Doctors were confident she could be saved, but they couldn't.

Anandan toiled to take care of Latha and support Anagha's studies. Latha also joined job guarantee schemes and doing some tailoring work. Anagha used to attend to household chores. The family was struggling like this when Anandan left first, and then Latha followed.

Anagha will get back to her Plus One commerce class at the Pullukulangara NRPM Higher Secondary School. The teachers had been caring though she had to skip several classes when her parents were in and out of hospitals.

An account operates in the name of Anagha and Latha at Corporation Bank, Arattupuzha branch in Alappuzha district. Account number: 520101033748884. IFSC: CORP0000433. Phone 98471 32507.
