Kozhikode: With the centre's go-ahead, Kozhikode railway station and its neighbouring stations like West Hill, Feroke and Kadalundi are awaiting a make-over, including new escalators, ATM counters and cafeteria.
Southern Railway general manager R K Kulshrestha has informed that the railway was speeding up works in Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram divisions, said Member of Parliament (MP) from Kozhikode M K Raghavan.
Nearly 21 demands were listed by the MP regarding the development projects in railway stations in his constituency based on priority.
He said, most of them were approved by the railway and work would begin immediately.
The development projects have been entrusted to the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS).
The first set of tender procedures are over, said the MP at Calicut Press Club on Saturday. Railway officials will invite for detailed project report (DPR) once the connected works are also over, he said.
Kozhikode was the first railway station in Kerala to have escalator and lifts in all the platforms.
Projects in Kozhikode railway station
• Restaurant in the fourth platform
• Shifting of the parcel office to multi-functional office to ensure hygiene
• Shifting of the ticket reservation office to the air-conditioned room in multi-functional office in fourth platform to reduce crowd.
• New escalator in fourth platform.
• ATM counter near second entrance.
• Allocate land for a fire station on the premises of railway station.
• Start Memu services.
• New railway lines connecting Angadippuram, Calicut International airport, Karipur, Feroke and Kozhikode.
• Replace the old coaches with new Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches.
• Start new booking counter at Thamarassery.

• Foot overbridge in Kallayi.
• Raising of platform and construction of foot overbridge in Vellayil.
• Extending and raising of platform in Elathur and West Hill.
Projects in Feroke
• Complete the roofing of platforms.
• Inter-locking from areas stretched from parking lot to main road.
• Raising and extending the second platform.
• Installing street lights from the old bridge to railway station entrance.
• Increasing the parking areas. Install more toilets and ATM counters.
Projects in Kadalundi
• Permission to construct railway gate (174 D) with deposit from the state government.
• Road renovation from railway station to Kunnamthurathi.
• Raising of the platforms and construction of a new foot overbridge.
• Entry from both sides to the already existing foot overbridge.
