Now, KINFRA general manager appointment under the scanner
Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra)

New Delhi: The appointment of KINFRA general manager (operations) T Unnikrishnan, who is in the eye of the storm over the transfer of land to a brewery, was allegedly made based on fake documents. Though complaints have been lodged with the vigilance, no action was taken against Unnikrishnan, who is the son of former CPM MLA Koliyakode Krishnan Nair.

Unnikrishnan, who graduated in civil engineering in 1999, joined KINFRA (Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation) as an assistant manager in 2002. But during the selection process he claimed that he took B Tech in 1996.

Retracing the steps

KINFRA had placed an advertisement inviting applications to the post of assistant manager (civil) in late 2001. The candidates were required to be graduates in civil engineering with five years’ work experience. The recruitment was carried out by Kitco, and Unnikrishnan was appointed to the said post after the applications of candidates who had less than five years' experience were rejected.

As per the details furnished by Unnikrishnan just before the interview, he had graduated in 1996. But according to the information in the documents presented, he passed the exams in June 1998 (register no: 6565) and January 1999 (register no: 3972) and the degree certificate was issued on March 28, 2000, indicating that he didn’t have the requisite work experience. Unnikrishnan had also claimed that he worked in three organisations since July 1996.

He was promoted as deputy manager, usually given to people with 9 to 10 years' experience, in November 2007 during the LDF regime. Apparently, Unnikrishnan was considered for the promotion based on the false information relating to his graduation and work experience given at the time of appointment.

Unnikrishnan, who was promoted as deputy manager in 2007, became manager (technical) the next year in November.

After the current LDF government came into power, Unnikrishnan was given the additional responsibility of the managing director of KINFRA International Apparel Park on July 4, 2016. He also got the additional responsibility of managing KINFRA Film and Video Park as general manager (projects). Unnikrishnan was appointed as the general manager by the middle of last year.
