Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government employees who have contributed a month's salary to the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) might get it recorded in the service book, while those who haven't will not get the benefit. The move is in defiance of a High Court order which had directed that employees should not be differentiated on the basis of their response to the salary challenge plan, the popular name for the drive to mobilise funds for flood relief.

The demand for service book entry was raised by service organisations belonging to the ruling front, and Finance Minister Thomas Isaac has passed on the request to department secretary Manoj Joshi.

The service book records all details about a government employee's service.

Opposition-allied organisations had raised the argument that once the employee's response to the plan is recorded in the service book, it becomes an easy tool to identify those who have stayed away, and could invite revenge measures.

The government had earlier marked 'No' on the salary slip of employees who had declined to contribute.

The 'salary challenge' posed by the LDF government had drawn flak from opposition parties and a section of employees. Leader of the opposition Ramesh Chennithala had urged the government to withdraw the decision.
