After losing control, the car skidded to the right and rammed a tree on the roadside. Balabhaskar's two-year-old daughter died before she could reach a hospital.

Thiruvananthapuram: Violinist Balabhaskar himself was driving the car when it met with an accident last month, his driver Arjun has told the police in his testimony, nearly a fortnight after the popular musician's death.

He had driven the car only from Thrissur to Kollam, from there Balabhaskar himself was behind the wheel with wife Lakshmi and daughter Thejaswani sitting in the front seat, Arjun told the cops. At the time of the accident, he was resting in the rear seat.

Arjun did not suffer any serious injuries in the accident. The accident took place near the CRPF Camp Junction at Pallippuram on the national highway at 4 am on September 25.

After losing control, the car skidded to the right and rammed a tree on the roadside. Balabhaskar's two-year-old daughter died before she could reach a hospital. Balabhaskar, who suffered serious injuries to his brain, neck, backbone and the lungs, succumbed in hospital though he underwent two surgeries. His widow Lakshmi is recuperating.
