Thiruvananthapuram: The United Arab Emirates, where lakhs of Keralites work, was the first country to offer aid to the state as floods devastated it in August. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, on a visit there, said the other day the love that the country offered was more precious than the billions it was ready to raise for us.

A reputed Keralite wax sculptor Sunil Kandalloor has now created a life-size statue of UAE prime minister and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum as a gesture of immense gratitude.

Sunil took one-and-a half months to complete the work as he paid great attention to the details of Sheikh Mohammed. Sunil has brought his statue to the art exhibition which opened in Shangumugham Art Gallery on Sunday. Minister Kadakampalli Surendran unveiled the statue.

Sunil said all the money collected at the show will go to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund. The sculptor, who has created over 200 wax statues, owns a museum at Lonavala in Maharashtra. The sculptor is planning his own museum in Thiruvananthapuram also.

Sunil has in the past crafted life-size statues of several famous personalities in India. Among statues on display at Shangumugham are those of Sree Narayana Guru, V S Achutanandan, Rajnikanth, Virat Kohli, Sree Sree Ravishankar and Sachin Tendulkar.
