More trouble for CPM, another DYFI leader raises sexual abuse allegations

Irinjalakuda: A woman leader of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has alleged that a Left leader tried to abuse her at the MLA Hostel in Thiruvananthapuram and that she was yet to receive justice even after repeated complaints to the police and her party.

Speaking to the media at her residence at Kattoor, the woman said the police were delaying the arrest of R L Jeevanlal, former DYFI block joint secretary in Irinjalakuda. “I doubt that the arrest is getting delayed because of political influence,” she said.

“I had first complained to the state leadership of the DYFI, and later to its state secretary M Swaraj. The Kattoor police had recorded my statement after I lodged a complaint with the Irinjalakuda DySP on September 4.

“The case was transferred to Thiruvananthapuram Museum Police under whose jurisdiction the MLA Hostel falls. They recorded my statement on September 11. A magistrate took my statement on October 9,” she explained.

“The police initially said they could not arrest Jeevanlal as he had filed for anticipatory bail. Later when I contacted them after his plea was rejected, the police said, 'arrest will take time, after all he's a party man.

“I will file a petition with the chief minister for justice, and will also approach the court,” she added.

The woman leader's revelations have put the CPM on the defence. The DYFI has also been cornered over her statement that complaints lodged with the party have also not fetched justice.

The CPM had earlier drawn flak after another DYFI woman leader had raised sexual abuse against one of its MLAs, P K Sasi.
