Kasaragod: Government offices are saying no to plastic. A green protocol has taken effect in all government offices and establishments across the state from Thursday, the 62nd foundation day of Kerala.
The project will be carried out under the aegis of Haritha Keralam mission and Swachchata Mission. Training of nodal officers for the initiative has been completed, with 1,224 getting trained in 18 phases.
The green protocol comes into effect in 83 government departments, 90 public sector establishments, 33 commissions, 33 welfare boards, 160 governments companies and 399 other establishments.
At district levels, 1,114 offices have adopted the green protocol. Apart from these, 1,224 government offices will soon adopt the protocol.
All types of disposable items and prohibited products have been banned. Unusable furniture will be handed over for recycling. All types of e-wastes will be removed, and biodegradable waste will be processed in the offices.
In various stages, the green protocol will be enforced in government offices. Organic farming, washroom renovation and introducing green cover for campus, canteen and the terrace are on the anvil. The project has been implemented in government offices as a first step towards adopting a full green protocol in the entire state.
