HC junks plea to slash 'vratha' period for Sabarimala women devotees
Devotees walk to Sabarimala

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has dismissed a petition that sought to limit the vow to 21 days for women who prepare to visit the Sree Dharma Sastha Temple at Sabarimala. The petitioner had also asked the court to issue a directive on this to the chief priest at Sabarimala.

Rejecting the prayers, the court told petitioner M K Narayanan Potti to approach the Supreme Court. Does anyone have the legal authority to issue such a directive to the chief priest or thantri, the court asked.

The High Court also dismissed a demand for a ban on the entry of young women to the temple until the Supreme Court took a final decision on the revision petitions against its own ruling allowing their entry. The court pointed out that it is not authorised to consider any prayer against the apex court's verdict.

The court asserted that it cannot take a stand opposing the Supreme Court's ruling, and pointed out that a plea has been filed in the apex court raising the same demand.
