Discarded lottery ticket fetches Rs 10 lakh prize

Tripunithura: A lottery ticket, which was thrown away by its disillusioned buyer, later turned out to be lucky for him. The ticket lay by the wayside in Tripunithura for a day and night amid rain and mist as the owner had discarded it after a cursory check for a minor price.

Lottery agent Chelakkal Vijayan knew that a ticket sold by him had won Rs 10 lakh in the Kerala Lottery's Karunya Plus draw. But he was unsure as to who the winner was. He zeroed in on one Deepak, a mason of Varikkamkunnu. However, he told the agent that he had indeed discarded the ticket in front of a hotel as he did not find a Rs 5,000 price. Both later retrieved the ticket after an intense search.

The ticket has been presented at the treasury in Thiruvananthapuram.

Agent Vijayan has a piece of advice to those who buy lottery tickets: please do have the patience to check the results.
