Asst professor dies after falling from college building
George Thomas, 45, an assistant professor with the English department of Deva Matha College, fell on to a concrete floor and sustained fatal injuries to his head.

Kuravilangad, Kottayam: A college professor died after falling from the the third floor of his college here on Monday. He was reportedly trying to open a window that wasn't grilled.

George Thomas, 45, an assistant professor with the English department of Deva Matha College, fell on to a concrete floor and sustained fatal injuries to his head. He could not be saved though he was rushed to hospital without delay.

George, who teaches graduate and post-graduate students, was in the habit of reaching the college early, around 8.30 am. On Monday, there was no electric supply as he reached the fourth floor of the main building where the department is located. The police said he slipped and fell through the window as he tried to open it.

The window is about 3.5 feet above floor level. The forensic department at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital stated George would have moved forward while exerting force to open the window pane, and would have slipped.

Teachers at the college were yet to arrive and it was a student who first spotted George lying on the floor, injured.

The police have filed a case for unnatural death.

George is survived by his wife Smitha, who belongs to the Varikkaplakkel family at Plashanal, and children Deepak George Thomas, Rosemary Thomas, and Chris Antony Thomas. All the children are students of the SKPS School, Kaduthuruthy.
