Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has given a felicitation letter to SP Yathish Chandra for his duty in Sabarimala.

The LDF government has showered accolades on the IPS officer, days after he had a brief standoff with Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan at Nilakkal.

Radhakrishnan, who was on his way to the shrine, engaged in a brief altercation with the police over restrictions on private vehicles heading to Pamba, the last entry point to the Lord Ayyappa shrine. The BJP had alleged that the senior IPS officer behaved 'arrogantly' with the minister. Case against Yathish Chandra

Even as the IPS officer gets praise for his 15-day stint at Sabarimala, a petition has been moved against him in the Kerala High Court.

The son of Hindu Aikya Vedi leader KP Sasikala demanded action against the cop for 'misuse of power'. He alleged that both he and his mother were portrayed as criminals.

The cop had stopped Sasikala en route to Sabarimala with her grandchildren on November 19. He allowed her to proceeded to the shrine only after giving strict instructions to her to return immediately after darshan.

Sasikala was arrested by the police near Marakoottam near Sabarimala at 2.30 am on November 17. She was later let off on bail.

Unprecedented security arrangements have been made at the shrine, which opened for the third time on November 16 for the two-month-long pilgrimage season after the Supreme Court allowed women of child-bearing age to offer prayers.

The temple complex and nearby areas had witnessed widespread protests after the state government decided to implement the September 28 apex court verdict.
