Kudumbashree workers build a house for destitute woman

Pathanamthitta: A homeless woman residing in Erath panchayat is the beneficiary of a house constructed entirely by Kudumbashree workers. The 410 square feet house with two bedrooms, a hall and a kitchen was built in 53 days.

Kala Venu had been living in a shed for long until the workers came forward to build the house. The panchayat had allotted Rs 4 lakh for the construction under the 'Life' plan.

The foundation stone was laid on September 12.

The task was assigned to Kudumbashree by its district mission as part of training them for construction work. Kudumbashree members R. Prasanna and G. Nalini of wards 5 and 16 led the construction, right from digging up the earth for foundation to plastering, plumbing and wiring. Mason D. Biju was on hand for assistance.

Usha Udayan, the Kudumbasree head in the panchayat, selected the beneficiary. The workers were given a stipend of Rs 275 per working day.

The Institution for Skill Extension Training, Karunagapally, is in charge of training Kudumbashree workers in building construction. Thirty workers from the panchayat were given training before they started working on Kala's house.
