Thiruvananthapuram: A girl in Kaviyoor who committed suicide along with her entire family 14 years ago was not sexually abused by her father, the Central Bureau of Investigation said in a court on Monday. The investigating agency had been insisting that the attacker was the father.
The fourth CBI report in the case, submitted by deputy superintendent of police Anantha Krishnan, stands by all other earlier findings. The report said that there were no scientific evidence to blame the father. The trial will resume on January 30.
The CBI told the court that the girl was sexually abused but the 24-page report has no mention of any 'VIPs' such as political leaders or their sons. In short, the CBI does not know who the rapists are.
The girl was sexually abused even 72 hours before she committed suicide. She was too weak even to stand up when she was abused. Namboothiri, his wife Shobana, three children - Akshya, Anagha, Akhila - were found dead on September 28, 2004.
The CBI said that the suicides were abetted by Latha Nair, the only accused in the case. Latha Nair is reportedly a family friend of Namboothiri. She was the main accused in the Kiliroor sex scandal in which a teenaged girl from Kiliroor in Kottayam was sexually abused by many people after being promised roles in TV serials.
The agency has listed 63 witnesses in the Kaviyoor case.
The CBI had earlier accused the girl’s father, Narayanan Namboothiri, a priest in the Sreevallabha Temple at Kaviyoor, of abusing the girl but the court rejected three reports for want of scientific evidence. In the latest report, the agency said that there was no scientific evidence or eyewitnesses to pin the blame on the father even though the girl’s classmate and neighbours had testified against him.
The CBI stands by its argument that Namboothiri forced his daughters to consume poison before committing suicide. The agency failed to find any external intervention or pressure tactics in the case which triggered sensational reports mentioning the names of political leaders and their sons.
Namboothiri's relatives had alleged that he was forced into suicide after Latha Nair forced his daughter into submission to political leaders and film artistes.
