Guinness record for wood puzzle set at Kollam hotel

Kollam: A giant devil's knot (edakoodam) that art director and painter Rajasekharan Parameswaran built for display at Raviz Hotels and Resorts in Kollam has found a place in the Guinness Book of Records. It broke the record of largest wood block puzzle, which is 18 feet tall and 40 cm wide, held by Foffa Conrad in Valchava, Switzerland.

Each of the six intersecting wooden logs built by Rajasekharan measures 24 feet in length and two feet in width and took two months to build. It was installed at the hotel on December 27, 2017.

A graduate in mathematics, Rajasekharan was attracted towards the puzzle when he saw a four-inch 'edakoodam' at the Thiruvananthapuram Science and Technology Museum when he was 18.

In 2007, Rajasekharan had won the state award for art direction for Adoor Gopalakrishnan's film 'Naalu Pennungal'. In 2008, he made his way to the Guinness Book of Records by drawing the largest easel painting portrait of Communist leader E M S Namboodiripad.

He has held exhibitions in Malaysia, Singapore and London. Rajasekharan handed over the partnership certificate and medal to Hotel Raviz general manager Suma Nair for supporting his endeavour.
