Woman's charred body found inside house, kin seek probe
Jyothi was the wife of Lalji of Ambalamkunnu house.

Kuttanad: Charred body of a 27-year-old woman found under mysterious circumstances at her house at Veliyanad in Kerala's Alappuzha district cast suspicion on her husband's role in the death.

Body of Jyothi, wife of Lalji of Ambalamkunnu house, and mother of a three-year-old girl, was found inside her husband's home Tuesday.

Jyothi's family claimed that she was a bold woman and would not have taken her life under any circumstances. Her family and neighbours alleged that the burnt body was found inside the house and this points to the role of her husband's family in the death.

Neither Lalji nor any of his family members attended the cremation, triggering suspicion. A large number of villagers attended the funeral held at her native village Venattukad.

Villagers have formed an action council, demanding a probe into the death.

Jyothi is the daughter of Kunjumon and Thankamma of Palakalchira, Venattukad, Chennankari.

Her body was found on Tuesday. The police have registered a case of unnatural death, based on a complaint filed by her father. The police said the cause of death could be ascertained only after receiving the post-mortem report and the result of forensic examinations.

Lalji is a temporary worker at the water transport department. Theirs was a love marriage.
