Kozhikode: Vanashree workers from Mathottam captured eight pythons from a field near to Mooryadu Bridge in the city.

The officials were informed of the presence of pythons in a field with wild vegetation after multiple sightings by people who come to the riverside for fishing.

The snakes were caught by Vanshree’s temporary employee Laiju after the field was cleared of vegetation using an earth mover.

The local residents said that the field was home to the pythons for long, and the presence of these serpents could be the reason for the drastic dip in number of stray dogs in the area.

The snakes are kept at Mathottam Vanashree, and later would be released in the dense forests of Wayanad.

Many months ago, six pythons were captured from a field at Kunduparambu in the district.
