Kerala govt to launch 1,000-day celebration from Kozhikode
The inauguration of the state-wide celebration would be attended by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Kozhikode beach at 5pm on Wednesday.

Kozhikode: The development projects of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, especially the projects announced in the recent budget would be the highlight of the 1,000 days of government celebration set to start on February 20 from here.

The inauguration of the state-wide celebration would be attended by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, other ministers and people's representatives in Kozhikode beach at 5pm on Wednesday. The tagline for the week-long celebration is '1,000 days, 1,000 projects and development to the tune of Rs 1000 crore'.

Though usually, inaugurations of such celebrations are held in the state capital, the inauguration in Kozhikode is aimed at highlighting the development projects announced in northern districts, said transport minister AK Saseendran.

“Government is giving priority to the developments in northern Kerala, especially areas like Wayanad, where a special package was announced in the recent budget,” said the minister, who represents Elathur constituency in Kozhikode.

The concluding session of the week-long celebration would be held on February 27 at the Central Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram.

Jobs created by Kozhikode cyber park and opening of the Kannur International Airport are the highlights of government advertisements. Though no major projects were announced in Kozhikode in the new budget, the CPM is planning to counter the development claims of sitting MP MK Raghavan, who is set to contest for a third time.

However, Congress has challenged the CPM for a public debate over the development projects by the MP in the last 10 years. Raghavan will be taking out a 'Janahrudaya Yathra' from February 19 to March 1. The yathra, that was scheduled for Monday, was postponed after the murder of two Youth Congress workers in Periya, Kasaragod.
