Thiruvalla: A total number of 1662 class rooms of 268 schools in Pathanamthitta district including 95 Government schools and 73 Government-Aided schools have now entered the Hi-Tech category under the Hi-Tech School Project which forms part of the General Education Protection Mission initiated by the State Government.
The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has spent a total amount of Rs. 13.92 crores with the assistance of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The Hi-Tech School Project of the State Government targets creating 45,000 Hi-Tech classrooms for classes from 8 to 10 in the Government and Aided schools in the State.
The Hi-Tech classrooms in the district are provided with 2,192 laptops, 1,458 projectors, 1,467 speakers and 1,393 mounting kits. Apart from this, a total of equipments including 245 television sets, 257 DSLR cameras, 259 Full HD Web Camera are supplied to the Hi-Tech classrooms in the district. The majority of teachers have been provided with training in helping the students access the Samagra e-Resource Portal, the complete online learning management system that can be beneficial not only to students but to teachers, public and academicians. The KITES Open Online Course (KOOL) has also been initiated. A total number of 784 schools now have high speed Internet connectivity.
The Little KITES IT Clubs, formed in 104 schools in Pathanamthitta district, have a total membership of 2,979 children. The AGM HSS, Thiruvalla, (16 Hi-Tech classrooms), MS HSS, Ranni, (16 Hi-Tech Classrooms) and SVGV HSS, Kidangoor (15 classrooms) are the Aided schools in the district with the highest number of Hi-Tech classrooms. Among the Government schools, Govt. HSS, Adoor (14 hi-tech classrooms) and Govt HSS and Chittan (10 hi-tech classrooms) top the list.
All IT equipments supplied to the schools have an assured five-year warranty. The web portal and call centre for resolving hardware related complaints have already launched. The equipments will also be given insurance coverage.
The project for setting up Hi-Tech Laboratories 662 schools in Pathanamthitta district which have classes from Its Standard to Viet Standard has already begun, according to K Invar Sadat, Chairman and Executive Director, KITE.
With this, Kerala will become the first Digital State in the Educational sector, according to the Minister C Raveendranath.
