Government Vocational Higher Secondary School at Nadakkav.

Kozhikode: The redevelopment of the 120-year-old Government Vocational Higher Secondary School at Nadakkav here in Kerala has become the subject of a case study at the University of Strathclyd in Glasgow, Scotland. The topic will now be made part of the university’s curriculum in Corporate Entrepreneurship classes.

The study was presented by Dr Srivas Sahasranamam, a Chancellor’s Fellow at the University’s Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship. It is titled ‘Faizal and Shabana Foundation – a humanitarian approach to education’.

The Foundation functions along with the ‘Prism’ project of the Kerala Government that seeks to raise the standards of government schools through planned interventions. As part of the school makeover, buildings were rebuilt and classrooms were modernised. New washrooms were also constructed. Other new infrastructure include a hall, science centre, ground with astro turf, kitchen and library.

The study was conducted under the ‘Venture philanthropy in education’ section. It was selected taking into account the success achieved by the Foundation in implementing a major project involving a large amount of funds in a public school.

Within two years after the remodelling, Nadakkav school was selected as the third best government school in India.
