Massive fire in Kochi | Video

Ernakulam: A massive fire broke out in Broadway, the commercial hub of Ernakulam, on Monday morning. The fire has been brought under control and no casualties were reported.

The fire was first reported from a hardware shop and later spread to adjacent textile shops including K C Paapu and Sons. Incidentally, it was the 55th death anniversary of KC Paapu on Monday.

The blaze reportedly also spread to the nearby bakery.

Eight fire engines were pressed into service. The fire spread rapidly due to the clustering of shops in the busy trade hub.   

All shops in the vicinity were evacuated as soon as the fire was spotted. 

It was only a week ago several shops were gutted in a busy shopping area at Pazhavangady area in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city. The fire was reportedly first spotted in an umbrella showroom, and then it engulfed four more shops nearby. In this incident too textile shops were reduced to ashes.
