Thrissur: Prime Minister Narendra modi will visit Kerala on June 8 (Saturday). He will visit the famed Sri Krishna Temple in Guruvayur at 12 noon that day. The Guruvayur Devaswom, which manages the temple received a communique from the Prime Minister's Office on Saturday.

This would be Modi's first visit to Kerala after taking charge as prime minister for the second term. He will be accompanied by Railways Minister Piyush Goyal. It is not clear whether the prime minister would attend any event in the state during his visit.

Modi's visit assumes political significance in the wake of the BJP drawing a blank in the recently held Lok Sabha polls in Kerala despite the party storming back to power with a thumping majority.

Modi, along with BJP president Amit Shah, had extensively campaigned in Kerala in the run-up to the polls in which BJP held high hopes of opening account.

Modi's visit is likely to boost the party machinery ahead of the impending Assembly bypolls in the state.

Modi's visit would take place a day after Congress president Rahul's Gandhi's scheduled visit to Wayanad constituency which he represents in Lok Sabha.

The constituency visit could be the first public appearance of the Congress chief outside Delhi after his Thursday's presence at the oath-taking ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi held at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

On Rahul's visit, sources in the party said, he is expected to arrive at Calicut International Airport, Karipur, on June 7 and move to three Assembly constituencies in Malappuram - Nilambur, Eranad and Wandoor, and move to Thiruvambady in Kozhikode district. He will reach Kalpetta on Friday night for stay and visit the constituencies in Wayanad, before boarding his flight from Kannur airport on June 8.
