Balabhaskar’s wife has one question to those pointing fingers at her

Thiruvananthapuram: Lakshmi is slowly making her return to life after losing her family to a car accident that claimed the life of her husband and noted musician Balabhaskar, and their toddler daughter. But even while battling both physical pain and mental trauma, Lakshmi has had to answer naysayers who have been pointing fingers at her over the car accident.

"Music was all that Balabhaskar had. That's what he had inherited. We had to struggle a lot to make even small savings. Some people are alleging that I sold his violins. Those violins were everything for Balu. I will never do such a thing. All the violins are at home. Just because Balu is no more, people have the nerve to make up stories on our relationship,” said an emotional Lakshmi from her house ‘Hiranmayi’.

"Now, only I am there to speak for them."

She also dismissed reports that the family was carrying huge amounts of gold at the time of the incident.

"There are videos of police moving the things from car. I have less than 25 sovereigns of gold. I only wear light ornaments and on that fateful day, I was only wearing some of them," she said.

Balabhaskar’s family was on their way home when their car met with an accident at Pallipuram near Thiruvananthapuram on September 25, 2018. While their daughter was killed at the spot, Balabhaskar later died at the hospital. Lakshmi, who suffered grievous injuries in the accident, had to undergo several surgeries. She is yet to regain the full mobility of her limbs.

The car accident and Balabhaskar’s death again made headlines after his former programme coordinator Prakash Thamby was recently arrested for gold smuggling.

Mystery shrouding the accident is intensifying. What is your reaction to the allegations raised against you?

People are making allegations without even pausing to think that I had suffered the biggest loss of my life. Two of my dear ones have been snatched from me. My daughter was not even two. I am still undergoing treatment. Those who have been raising the finger against me, should answer this question - Why would I do it?

I only have one wish now, to carry out my daily activities without anyone's help.

I have always said that Arjun was driving that car. Arjun had even earlier confessed to my mother that the accident happened due to his mistake. I do not know why he later changed his statement.

How do you know Prakash Thamby? There are allegations his name was left out in crucial statements

I never said I did not know Prakash Thamby. Nor did I make any such claims in the Facebook post. Thamby was Balu's gym trainer and had known him for seven years. Thamby had coordinated Balu's regional programmes, like many others. After the accident, he had turned up at the hospital to help us out. I recently came to know of Kalabhavan Soby's statement that he had seen people running away from the accident site. If Thamby had tried to conceal that information, he should be the one answering as to why.

Neither Balu nor did I know that Thamby was involved in gold smuggling. I was really shocked to hear that. Balu tries to avoid even small issues. If he had received any such hints, Balu would have removed him then itself.

What about investments made in Palakkad?

I heard that some of his relatives alleged that Balu had invested lakhs of rupees for business purposes in Palakkad. They said there was something suspicious about it. Balu had lend money to his friend in Palakkad and that was returned. How would that be investment?

About the case...

The mystery has to be solved. If someone had tried to destroy my family, I want to know about it. I will go to any extent to get justice.
