Two critically injured after car rams students in Kollam

Kollam: Several people, including a toddler, were injured after a car rammed a group of students and their parents at Eram junction near Anjal in Kerala's Kollam district on Thursday morning.

The condition of two of the injured is said to be serious. They have been moved to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. First standard students of Eram Government LP School Noorjahan and Bismi, and her year-and-a-half-old sister Sumayya were injured in the accident. Noorjahan's mother Ansiya, and Bismi and Sumayya's mother Sheeba were also injured.

The driver of the car, while trying to overtake an autorickshaw, lost control of the vehicle and rammed the group that was heading to the school. Soon after the accident, onlookers rushed the injured to a nearby private hospital. After giving preliminary treatment, Bismi and Summayya were shifted to the hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The other three injured are undergoing treatment at the private hospital.

The police have taken into custody the driver, an Anchal native, and a woman who was in the car. The car has also been seized.
