Kerala floods: Holiday for educational institutions in 8 districts on Tuesday

Thiruvananthapuram: Even as Kerala is gearing up for heavy rainfall, district collectors of Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Kannur, Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur and Kozhikode declared holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges and Anganwadis, on Tuesday.

The Kerala University and MG University have postponed all examinations scheduled for Tuesday.

The Kerala University of Health Sciences has postponed all examinations scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

All the universities will announce fresh dates later.

However, there will be no change in Kannur University's LLB and Health Science examination on Tuesday.

Orange alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert (moderate rainfall) for Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur districts on Tuesday.

A fresh low pressure area is likely to form over Northwest Bay of Bengal by Tuesday. This may trigger rainfall in different parts of Kerala, with coastal districts likely to get heavy rains.

People living in hilly regions have been advised against travelling during heavy rains, especially during nights.
