Floods and other natural disasters are again haunting Kerala, with over 2 lakh displaced and nearly 90 people losing their lives in the last few days in the wake of incessant rains.
Last year Malayala Manorama had organised numerous medical camps across the length and breadth of the state as several lakhs were stationed in relief centres .
The media group is once again back with its medical camps for the benefit of the flood-hit.
Similar to its campaign last year, Manorama will be holding the medical drive named 'Koodeyundu Nadu' at relief camps. The worst-hit districts of Wayanad, Malappuram, Kannur and Kozhikode will benefit in the first phase this time.
Manorama will set aside Rs 50 lakh for the purpose. This include funds made available with the cancellation of the annual family gatherings of Manorama's Kochi, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kannur, Palakkad and Thrissur units.
The medical camps will aim to tackle the likely outbreak of infectious diseases that follow floods. Medical care will be extended to the elderly and patients staying in relief camps.
Services in general medicine, skin diseases, paediatrics and other disciplines will be available. Patients will be given medicines and a health kit. They will also be advised about care to be taken while staying in the camp and when returning to their homes as the situation normalises.
The camps will be held in those areas that were affected most by floods and where there is a likelihood of outbreak of diseases.
