Malappuram shocker: Teen girl alleges sexual assault by 30 men for two years

Malappuram: A 12-year-old girl, who has been raped for over two years by more than 30 people allegedly with the connivance of her parents, has been rescued and sent to  Children's Home in Malappuram.

The police have arrested three people, including the girl's father. They have been charged under various sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The arrested were 36-year-old Ashraf, who hails from Mele Chelari, and 38-year-old Shyju, a resident of Chenakkalangadi, in Malappuram district. The names of victim and her father have been withheld for privacy reasons. All the three have been sent to judicial custody.

The shocking incident came to light when local people alerted the school authorities, who in turn informed the Childline. The victim described her ordeal during a counselling session. She later recorded her statement with the magistrate.

Child Welfare Committee chairman Shajesh Bhaskar said the girl's father is a prime culprit in the case. "It is sad to note that the girl's father and mother connived with the rapists. Since a lot of people were involved in the case, we have asked the police to conduct a detailed inquiry," he said.
