5 injured as buffalo runs amok

Nedumangad: A large buffalo on Sunday ran wild and free for 10 kilometres and injured five people before it was caught at Vattappara near Nedumangad in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram district. The buffalo was brought to the Snehadeepam Skill Development Centre at Vattappara on Saturday evening before it broke loose, injuring two fire department officials and three locals before it was caught on Sunday.

According to reports, the animal ran amok after locals and officials from the fire department arrived at the spot at 11 am on Sunday. In its panicked rage, the bovine knocked down people and two-wheelers at MC road. Uncontrollable even to its handler, locals and fire department officials chased it for four-hours until the thickening crowd pushed the animal to take a plunge in a pond at  Thaneer Poyka. It was returned to the skill development centre around 3:30pm on Sunday.

The team of officials included Fire Force Assistant Station Officer Raveendran Nair with Anil Kumar, Saji Kumar, Santhosh Kumar, Rajesh Kumar, Shajeeb, Bijumon, Satheeshan, and Mahin.
