Three students of Puthuppally college go missing in Meenachil river
A search operation is underway under the guiudance of a scuba diving team due to the strong undercurrent in this part of the river.

Kottayam: Three students from a college in Puthuppally of Kerala's Kottayam district drowned in the Meenachil river on Friday.

They were students of the College of Applied Science, Puthuppally, run by the Institute of Human Resources Development. The drowned students are: Allan and Ashwin, both from Puthuppally, and Shibin Jacob from Meenadom.

Bodies of Shibin and Allan were recovered on Friday while Ashwin's body was recovered Saturday morning.

The tragedy occurred as the trio along with five others arrived at Parambuzha locality, close to Kottayam town, around noon to take a dip in the river.

When a student slipped and fell into the river, two others from the group jumped in to rescue their friend.

Police and rescue personnel rushed to the spot on being alerted. A search operation is underway under the guidance of a scuba diving team due to the strong undercurrent in this part of the river.
