Kerala CM extends a helping hand to mother-daughter, who travel 50km every day for safe shelter

Amminni and her daughter Kamakshi travel to Guruvayur from Shoranur every night for a safe shelter to sleep.

Shoranur: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has issued directives to help an 80-year-old woman, Amminni, and her 52-year-old daughter Kamakshi, who travel to Guruvayur from Shoranur every night for a safe shelter to sleep.

CM Pinarayi has asked the Palakkad District Collector to take necessary action to provide them with emergency aid. The Kerala CM intervened after the Malayala Manorama reported their plight. The Collector has asked the ADM to collect the details about the mother-daughter and submit a report.

The elderly woman and her daughter take a bus every day to the Guruvayur Temple, which is at a distance of 50km in the neighbouring district of Thrissur.

They sleep in the temple premises and return the next day to Shoranur after paying obeisance to Lord Krishna. During the day, they spend their time doing odd jobs at the houses and shops of their acquaintances. They are back at Guruvayur by nightfall.

Some among the bus crew, who are aware of the plight of the mother-daughter, do not seek any money from them.

Ammini once owned a house and about 5 acres of land at Chuduvalathur. But she lost the assets over the years for various reasons.

Kamakshi has one son, Rajan. An accident during his childhood years had left Rajan's body paralysed. But he can make handicrafts using clay. He sells lottery for a living at the bunk shop donated by Jeevatha, a voluntary outlet at Shoranur. He sleeps at the veranda of the office of clay workers' industrial cooperative society.
