Twelve more Keralites have lost their lives to COVID-19, the deadly pandemic that has killed over a quarter million people across the world, on Sunday.
Kollam Kundara native Geevarghese M Panikkar and Kottarakara native Fr M John, died of COVID-19 in Philadelphia of the United States. Eight-year-old Advaid, a native of Pala in Kottayam district, died in New York on Sunday. He was the son of nursing couple Suneesh and Deepa.
Meanwhile, almost nine deaths were reported amongst Keralites in the Gulf region. The deceased include Malappuram Edappal native Tahir Thekkumuri (56) and Kannur Kelakam native V Thankachhan (58) from Dubai; Thrissur Chavakkad native Mohammed Haneefa from Ras-Al-Khaimah; Pathanamthitta native Roshankutty (58)from Abu Dhabi; Malappuram native Ashraf, Kothamangalam native Nissar and Malappuram Tirur native Saithalavikutty Haji from UAE; Hamsa Aboobacker (59) from Saudi Arabia; and Kozhikode native Mahroof Maaliyekkal (44) from Kuwait.
With this the number of Keralites who have succumbed to the virus abroad rises to 86. More than half these deaths have been reported from Gulf countries. United States' New York reported the most deaths in a city.
