Manjeswar: Four members of a family, including one woman, were hacked to death in the Bayar village of Manjeshwar in Kerala's Kasaragod district.

The deceased have been identified as Devaki, 55, Sadasiva, 54, Vitla, 52, and Babu, 50.

Their nephew Uday has been taken into custody by the police.

The incident took place at around 7:30 pm on Monday. Uday's family members, including his mother Lakshmi were watching television at the time. Uday arrived with an axe and hacked the four family members to death. His mother managed to escape.

The police said that Uday likely committed the crime over a family dispute. He was mentally disturbed, police sources confirmed. Uday was captured by the locals and tied up after the incident.
