Dad flees wild elephant, 3-year-old falls off hands, dies

Nelliyampathy (Palakkad): A three-year-old boy died here on Monday, after falling from his father's hand during an escape bid from a wild elephant.

The man’s sister-in-law also suffered injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Ranish, the son of Ramachandran, a labourer of Anamada Estate and a resident of Muppathekkar Adivasi Colonyin Thekkady, Muthalamada, in Kollengode block. 

Ramachandran (39) and his relative Sarojini (16) sustained minor injuries. 

The incident took place close to the Mariamman temple near the Anamada Estate around 7 pm on Monday, when Ramachandran was returning home from the estate office. 

He picked up the baby and ran in one direction on seeing the elephant, while Sarojini ran in another direction. As he was running, Ranish fell from his hands. The boy's head hit a stone and he died of the head injury.
