Orphaned dog becomes haunting presence at Pettimudi | Video

Pettimudi, Idukki: It has been a silent witness to the death and devastation at Pettimudi near Rajamala in Kerala's Idukki district.

A pet dog, that probably lost its home when the massive landslide struck the area, has become a haunting presence at the tragic scene.

It has been at the mishap site for the past three days, looking at the mud and slush, underneath which lines of houses lie buried.

The dog is probably searching for its master and the home that cared for it these many years. It has been wandering through the debris, sniffing around, and running past the rescue workers.

Over 40 people have been killed and several reported missing after the landslide buried a row of houses that belonged to tea estate workers.

Heavy rain has been pounding Kerala for the past few days, claiming several lives and causing widespread destruction. Not just humans, pet animals and other beings too have been marooned amid nature’s fury.

Similar saddening tales of orphaned dogs looking for their masters were reported earlier when landslides wreaked havoc at Kavalappara in Malappuram and Puthumala in Wayanad last year.
