Pregnant woman dies after she falls down while trying to board bus

Kannur: A 27-year-old pregnant woman died after she fell down while trying to board a bus in Kannur on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Divya, a native of Perumthody in Kannur district. 

A staff nurse at the MIMS Hospital in Kannur, she was heading to work when the accident happened. Divya, who was five months pregnant, had reached the bus stop along with her husband around 7am on Wednesday.

She was walking towards the approaching bus when she slipped and fell down, according to an eyewitness. The bus came to a halt as the tyre hit her body. It is suspected that she had tripped after her dupatta got entangled with her feet or slippers. She died en route to the hospital.

The post-mortem report will be available on Thursday. There were no external injury marks.

The bus driver has been slapped with a case of unintentional killing.

Divya is the daughter of Tholambra natives George and Shantha. Neethu is her sister.

The funeral was held at the St George Orthodox Church on Thursday morning.
