Alappuzha: The body of a two-and-half year old boy, who went missing in Alappuzha beach on Sunday while his mother took a selfie, was retrieved on Tuesday.

The toddler identified as Adhikrishna is the son of Lakshmanan and Anitha, Palakkad.

According to reports, Anitha was visiting her relative Binu in Alappuzha with her two children and brother's son. On Sunday, she took the children to Alappuzha beach around 3pm. However, the guards at the beach did not allow them to go to the beach as the sea was rough.

Later, they came to the beach near ESI Hospital. The child went missing in the sea when Anitha was taking a selfie with the children. Binu was away parking their car.

The police have registered a case against Anitha and Binu, who brought the children to the beach violating the government orders.

The local police had been searching for the child in the rough seas for the past two days. Life guards and Fire and Rescue personnel also aided the search mission. The sea was rough since Saturday due to severe weather conditions.

The state has been witnessing heavy to very heavy rainfall at various parts since Saturday. The state government has also warned fishermen not to venture into seas due to rough seas and strong winds along and off Kerala coast.
