Media refrain from discussing CPM-govt's development initiatives: Kodiyeri

Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM, which is embroiled in controversies and cases, has trained its guns on media. The CPM state secretariat meet alleged that the right-wing forces were using a section of the media to create controversies frequently.

After the meeting, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the party was ready to hold talks with the media.

"If the media is not ready to correct its approach, then the party will try to expose the reality," he added.

While pointing out that the government was able to launch 40 of the '100 projects in 100 days' initiative in 40 days, Kodiyeri said that the media was refraining from discussing such development initiatives.

"The anti-Communist approach of the right-wing media is a threat to the democratic system," he added.

"Facts are being hidden and instead false news is circulated. Talks on issues that do not concern the public will weaken the democratic system. This is not beneficial to media or people. Wrong moves can be pointed out. But do not take a unilateral approach. The CPM workers had been even jailed as they stood for the freedom of press. But the CPM does not plan to bring in any law to control media,” Kodiyeri explained.

While saying that the party will campaign against political murders, Kodiyeri also cautioned the workers from making any provocative move.

Kodiyeri also addressed a series of issues that has been making headlines in the past few days.

• ED's charge-sheet: The charge-sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) only contains gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh's statements. But the headline of the news report was distorted. The discrepancies between the reality and report were evident in the article itself. The CBI has claimed underworld links to Life Mission. But isn't this the same agency that could not find evidence for the Babri Masjid demolition even though the whole world had seen it?

• Protocol violation: The allegation of protocol violation against Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan should be probed. It is not just a violation of protocol but he has violated the oath of office. Muraleedharan should take the initiative to prove his innocence. No Union Minister has had to face such an allegation.

• P T Thomas: Serious allegations have been raised against P T Thomas. The Thrikkakkara seat was given to Thomas, while alleging that Benny Behanan was tainted. Now, the Congress should scrutinise the allegations against Thomas.

• Jose K Mani: If the Jose K Mani faction makes their political stance public, we will hold discussions and take a call. The right decision will be taken at the right time.

Kodiyeri rejects Vellappally’s criticisms

Kodiyeri also rejected the criticisms raised by SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan over the appointment of P M Mubarak Pasha as the Vice-Chancellor of the Sree Narayana Guru Open University.

"The government decided to name the Sree Narayana Guru Open University thus after much deliberation. The university is named after the Guru, who urged people to rise above the caste and religious equations. People who head such institutions should be efficient. The SNDP is entitled to make its stance known. But it is wrong to view the university through the lens of any caste or religion. It’s against the Guru’s teachings,” Kodieryi explained.
