Neyyar ASI shunted out for abusing father-daughter duo

Thiruvananthapuram: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Kerala Police has courted trouble over maltreating a man and his daughter who came to the police station to lodge a complaint. He had no chance of escape from punishment as he was caught on camera abusing the duo at the Neyyar Dam police station in Thiruvananthapuram.

Kerala Police Chief, DGP Loknath Behara, shunted out the grade ASI Gopakumar to the Armed Reserve Camp in Kuttikanam in Idukki district, nearly 200 km north.

"We will threaten. We will talk rubbish. We don’t feel like listening to your complaint. If you are not well go to hospital, you rascal! Are you trying to show off in a police station?" Gopakumar is seen shouting at the father–daughter duo in the video clip that went viral on social media.

When Gopakumar alleged the man was likely sozzled, the daughter countered saying he does not consume liquor and asked the cops to get a breath-analyzer for testing him. This retort further provoked Gopakumar who instantly can be heard roaring, "Are we sitting here with an instrument to blow on your instructions?"

The rural range DIG has been ordered to submit a report within two days.

A few days ago another daughter of the man had eloped with a youth staying in the neighbourhood. Following the family's complaint, the couple was summoned to the police station and let off after the formalities.

The complainant, a resident of Pallivetta, had come to the police station three days later to file a complaint soon after the youth came to his house and abused him. Instead of sympathetic hearing, the complainant had to face the wrath of the police.
